One thing that does not get discussed is Mike Radcliff was promoted from the head of scouting to vice president of player personnel. Deron Johnson was promoted to head of the scouting department. Since Johnson took over the team has had some terrible drafts. I would love Terry Ryan to come back but we should think about making Radcliff the new GM. He was responsible for drafting Cuddyer, Mauer, Morneau, Span, Kubel, Slowey, Perkins, and Revere. Since 2008 Johnson has drafted Aaron Hicks (bust), Carlos Gutierrez (Bust), and Shooter Hunt (bust) in the first round. In 2009 Kyle Gibson (T.J Surgery), Matt Bashore (T.J. Surgery), and Billy Bullock (traded). In 2010 Alex Wimmers (bust), and Nicko Goodrum (bust). In 2011 Levi Michael (bust), Travis Harrison, and Hudson Boyd. As you can see this guy has been a disaster. The Twins have no depth on the farm because this guy has no idea how to select talent. But so long as those two morons Gardenhire and the eponymous Smith are running the show - this team will be a joke. No other franchise in the game would have kept these two on after Hardy, Ramos, Nishioka, the idiot pitching moves, the abysmal record against the Yankees, the same ol' never move the runners, never squeeze in a run, ..never recognize the importance of an early lead against the better teams, ad nauseum. Jim Pohlad is losing money by keeping these two clowns around. So, what is he thinking? Isn't Tom Kelly saying anything? If Paul Molitor is the best available managerial option - then by all means give him the job. As far as the GM, your guess is as good as mine. Yes, Mauer. While it could be argued (not by me) that there is <em>some</em> decent talent in the minors, I think it's a few years before we see some of the most promising ones. Unless of course we return to the 90's - then we could see some of them much sooner than they're probably ready to play at the major league level. I agree with you completely. While baseball isn't brain surgery, there are skills that a professional baseball player are expected to know and are expected to execute. What has been so hard to watch this year, is the brutal fielding, horrible baseball running, and total lack of situational awareness during the game. I know some of these are young kids, but someone like Plouffe is not exactly a youngster. And you read in the paper that he was SHOCKED when he got sent down because he thought he was doing okay because he had popped a few HRs (while fielding his position like a hack). What's going on with the Twins Minor League system??? Along with Billy Boy's questionable decision making, there's nothing to draw on from the minors...
